The show aired on 25th November on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.meridianfm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">107 Meridian<\/a>\u00a0and we\u2019ve got the recording below for you to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zovK0n2z0to\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Alan Wick about his new show<\/h3>\n<p>The \u201cReal Business with Alan Wick\u201d show is broadcast at 5pm on the last Sunday of every month. I love working with entrepreneurs. I particularly want to help and support startups and early stage businesses. So if that\u2019s what you\u2019re doing, or you know someone who is, this show is for you. Here in Britain, we\u2019re an entrepreneurial nation. There are around 600,000 businesses started up here every year, but the reality is that most fail: only around a third of them are still in existence after three years.<\/p>\n<p>Running your own business can look and sound exciting; TV shows such as The Apprentice and Dragons Den focus on the \u201cthe deal\u201d, and can give the impression that it\u2019s about making a fast buck. But the reality is that it\u2019s a whole lot more than that. Being an entrepreneur involves passion, innovation, patience, persistence (never taking no for an answer), resourcefulness \u2013 and a whole lot of discipline. So I\u2019d like to contribute to increasing the success rate of start-ups and early stage businesses, by sharing the learnings of successful entrepreneurs, and my own learnings from over 40 years in business; that\u2019s what this show is all about.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Jobs, who you may know as the founder of Apple, gave a wonderful speech to students at Stanford University at the end of their studies, as they were about to go out into the world. In it, he advised them to \u201cStay Hungry. Stay Foolish.\u201d I\u2019d like to adapt Steve Jobs advice for entrepreneurs. Instead of \u201cStay Hungry. Stay Foolish\u201d, I encourage entrepreneurs to\u00a0\u201cStay Hungry. Stay\u00a0Learning.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s why each of my shows will have an interview with a successful entrepreneur, with a focus on what they\u2019ve learned, and are still learning.<\/p>\n<p>Here are typical questions I ask them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What does your business do?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What\u2019s the story of your business so far?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Why did you start your business?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Was there anyone in particular that inspired you to start it?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What were your goals when you started?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">When did you know it would succeed?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Did you have any business training?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What impact has owning a business had on your lifestyle?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">How do you prioritise the cultural vs. the commercial aspects of running a business?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What is your greatest achievement in your business, so far?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What was your biggest mistake in your business, so far?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Was there ever a time you felt like giving up your business?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What\u2019s your biggest opportunity or challenge for your business in the future?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What is your most important learning so far?<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">What\u2019s the most valuable advice you\u2019d give to someone considering starting a business?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As well as that, on some shows, there\u2019ll be a chance to phone in to ask me a question about your business, which I\u2019ll do my best to help you with.
