Celebrating the wonderful world of books<\/h2>\n

World Book Day is upon us, and we here at\u00a0LifeBook\u00a0couldn\u2019t turn down a chance to don the garb of our favorite literary characters. Those currently working at home today we assume are suitably dressed.<\/p>\n

Helping our authors to share their stories is what we do, but we love the work that\u00a0www.worldbookday.com<\/a>\u00a0does to promote reading amongst young children. Do check out their website and grab some \u00a31 book tokens to share some stories of your own!<\/p>\n

Pirates of the Caribbean<\/h3>\n

Jack Sparrow\u2019s first ship was\u00a0The Barnacle<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 a battered fishing boat that he found on the Isle of Tortuga. A series of\u00a013 books by Rob Kidd<\/a>\u00a0follow the teenage Jack\u2019s adventures, long before he became a Pirate of the Caribbean and his beloved\u00a0Black Pearl<\/em>\u00a0was taken from him by the mutinous Hector Barbossa.

A Clockwork Orange<\/h3>\n

A Clockwork Orange\u2019s protagonist, Alex, loves classical music (particularly Beethoven) and seems to enjoy creatively playing with language. That is where our similarities end! I will not be requiring any contraptions to keep my eyes open while I edit some wonderful LifeBooks today, and the staff ploughman\u2019s lunch sounds much more enticing than the local milk bar.

The Adventures of Tom Bombadil<\/h3>\n

My father-in-law\u2019s nickname for me is\u00a0Tom Bombadil<\/a>\u00a0for reasons unclear; I am not the master of wood, water and hill, and for rhyming speech I don\u2019t have much of an ear. Tom first appeared in Tolkien\u2019s poem\u00a0The Adventures of Tom Bombadil<\/em>, as well as in\u00a0The Lord of the Rings<\/em>. Although Tom can\u2019t be seen as integral to the plot of the book (aside from assisting Frodo and his companions as they travel through the Old Forest), Tolkien does suggest that Tom could be the eldest living being in Middle-Earth. Now that would be quite the LifeBook \u2026

Alice in Wonderland<\/h3>\n

There is a connection between author Lewis Carroll and our area: Mr Carroll (aka Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) is not only buried in Mount Cemetery, Guildford, but also spent lots of time visiting Guildford throughout his life, as some of his family lived here. There is even a statue of Alice and the White Rabbit commemorating the connection, just a few miles from the LifeBook office. Alice\u2019s Adventures in Wonderland<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is one of my all-time favourite reads, with such a wealth of marvellous characters! I chose Alice as she is curious, courageous and kind: qualities that I aspire to have.
